The call for abstract submissions to the 2008 Congress of the ESC is open. The Council for Basic Cardiovascular Science of the ESC wishes to encourage in particular submissions from basic scientists. Supported by the ESC Board, several measures have been implemented to enhance and improve basic science at the annual congress. Specific sessions in cardiovascular research are aimed at basic scientists. Presenters of translational as well as fundamental experimental work, labeled as ‘bench’ research, in particular young scientists, will receive the following financial support:
- free registration for ‘bench’ abstract presenters aged 35 or under (tick box at time of submission)
- travel awards for the best submissions.
The selection of awardees will be made on the basis of the quality of the submitted abstract as scored by an international review panel. Only abstracts accepted in the topic group Basic Science and reporting ‘bench’ research are eligible; applicants should not be older than 35 years at the time of abstract submission.
Requests for travel grants should be addressed to the CBCS after receiving confirmation of acceptance of the abstract (contact us to send your request ).
Additional initiatives for basic scientists at the Congress:
- the CBCS poster reception, an opportunity to further discuss science in an informal gathering
- the Science Hot Line, for submission of late-breaking abstracts with special web coverage
- the ESC Young Investigator award.
